The Business Board – Some good news after the bad?

Things are getting tough out there.

The Business Board have been writing to you over the past few months outlining some of the issues affecting the construction / printing / any industry, and hopefully, have provided some useful information that has helped steer your business in the right direction in these challenging times. These strategies were summarised in our recent communication entitled Roadmap to Recovery document.
However, things are now starting to gather at a critical pace, and we believe that companies need to start ramping up their survival plans.
First, the Bad News…
We don’t want to have to go through all the gruesome facts and figures for you – it’s all around you. It’s enough to state that the fiscal news in the last few days is nothing short of depressing. The government is trying to offset the imminent downturn, and ringfence the economy from a recession that may be the deepest in living memory. The Chancellors attempt to protect jobs and companies alike is laudable, but it has its limits. Uncertainty still abounds.

Uncertainty breeds fear and doubt, which knocks confidence, and this feeds a narrative that continues to reinforce a downward spiral of negativity, which affects business.
The one thing that business needs at the moment is clarity. Although the government is doing as much as it can, it certainly can’t predict the future, and therefore can’t protect everyone. The future is unclear and there will be collateral damage.
This begs the question what you as a business owner or a senior manager can do for your company today. How can you mitigate the challenges of the road ahead, while you try to navigate into the unknown? There is no ‘readymade’ template to chart a course through a pandemic.
Now the Good News……
There are several things that you can do to reduce risk and exposure to your company, some of which we have highlighted in our previous communications. We consider now is the time to take massive action.
To do this, companies must clinically look of their business, review every aspect of it, and ask some tough questions. No one knows your business like you, but sometimes you can get too close to it, and overlook some vital indicators. This is where external expertise comes in.
