But once you grow your business to a size – who’s telling you where to go now?
Many owners go to their accountants, some may have mentors or the new theme seems to be ‘business coaches’.
So who do you trust and how do they know what to do?
The answer is to ask for their CV and, like you, see if they have built up a business from scratch, see if they have worked through the night and weekends before taking on employees, to then build a business and grow it year on year.
In fairness the first stages are exciting, its all new, a new challenge, a growing market, building a team, gradually increasing the equipment you have, then from the business you start to get some of the nicer things in life.
As you grow you try to borrow sparingly, following all the sensible business disciplines.
As you then take on more people and move to larger premises, take on more work, take on more people, need to bring in more sales to pay for the increasing overhead then what? Is it more of the same vicious circle? It’s then generally not so exciting but it can be.
It is a continual process of accessing where your business is going, asking what is the forecast within your sector of the next 3 years and your strategy to move forward.
We don’t have all the answers but we have a team of ex business owners and commercially minded professional consultants who have worked within the SME market place, who can help and if we can’t we will walk away.
We are different because the clock isn’t ticking from the word go, in fact we don’t even charge for the first couple of meetings. We will ensure we get on, we will ensure we can help you and we will ensure that the first focus is on savings. We will talk through your issues and challenges, we will help you put together a strategy to maximise the return you get from your business, often without any expenditure.
One of the team will have been exactly in your position, and an outside pair of eyes may see the answers more easily.
